Chairman of the Galway West Branch and Enrolment Secretary of Region 5.  Elected to National Executive Committee at National Council in Blarney in 1989 as Assistant Secretary General.  

Gerard is a Member of the Professional Commission, and he is a regular contributor to the IPA Journal with the column "Western Tidings". He is also the Garda Crime Prevention Officer for Galway West Garda Division and was the First ever Garda Siochana Safety Representative of the Year.

Gerard holds the following:-

• Diploma in Website Design
• Certificate in Health & Safety from the British Institute of Occupational Hygenists

Gerard is a Marine & Countryside Guide, a founding member of the Galway Garda Hillwalking Club "Cumann Siúl Cois Coiribe".
