Located in the Southwest corner of Ireland, 'Ivernia', which consists of The Counties of Cork and Kerry, claims some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.  This South-Western coastline, sculptured by the ice-age and influenced by warm waters of the Gulf Stream, is steeped in ancient history and folklore.  This mountainous area has an abundance of natural beauty and is enriched by sub-tropical flora produced by unusually warm and temperate climate.

Visitors to the area can travel by air, boat, train or car to Cork City, the second city of the Republic Of Ireland.  Another access point to the Region is through Kerry Airport which is just 17Km from Killarney town.

Committee Members - Ivernia

With her remarkable charm, bumpy bridges, hilly streets and distinctive continental air the City of Cork will not fail, like the rest of the region to captivate and welcome all of their visitors, young and old.
Moving further inland, the Blackwater Valley offers a strong archaeological and historic heritage.  Heading West, visitors can enjoy the lakes, rivers and mountain ranges of Killarney.  Then, go on to explore the peninsulas of Dingle, the Ring Of Kerry and West Cork.

There are many amenities in the area, with places of interest to visit, sporting and leisure activities, and festivals and other special events to experience.  Sporting enthusiasts will find plenty to do, with golf courses to choose from, tennis centres, riding schools, bowling, badminton, squash courts and football and hurling matches most weekends.  The unspoilt coastal and inland waters of Cork and Kerry offer numerous water sports, from fishing to sailing, diving and windsurfing.  Regattas and many national and international sailing events take place in the area throughout the year.

Cork and Kerry also have a great deal to offer those visitors seeking a cultural holiday with numerous archaeological and historic sites, some dating from pre-Christian times and a wealth of traditional Irish language, folklore and song experience.

The Region, which is Region No. 3 in the Ireland Section, is probably better known in recent years as 'Ivernia'.  It is derived from the name 'Evernia', a goddess who ruled the area many years ago.  The Region consists of three branches namely, Kerry, West-Cork and Cork East.
All branches are fortunate to have active and vibrant committees who are always engaged in activities ranging from fund-raising for charities to Christmas parties for children to golf and soccer events.  The natural beauty of the area is the attraction for our many foreign colleagues who are always given a cead mile failte by our members.

All Branches have their own varied activities throughout the year.  The annual Regional Lakes of Killarney and Gap of Dunloe trip has been very popular since it first began.  It gives members and families from all Branches throughout the Region, and from much further afield an opportunity to meet and greet.

This Annual Regional Trip takes place every September.  This is the 6th Year of this very successful family event.  It has become the highlight on our Regional Calendar.  We explore the Jewel in Kerry's crown, which is Killarney's 26,000 acre National Park.  An open boat through the Lakes of Killarney and a 7 mile trek through the Gap of Dunloe give the 100 participants a good appetite for a sumptuous meal in Kate Kearny's Cottage afterwards.  Jaunting cars are available for those who might find the trek too demanding.  The grant of €1500 from the National activity fund does help a great deal.

Our Regional Chairman is Noel Power who retired as a Sergeant in Tralee, Co. Kerry.  Noel has a football and hurling sporting background and served on the National Executive as Development Secretary for a number of years. Noël also sponsors our Regional Trophy for the 5 a side indoor Soccer competition between the branches in the region. Our Treasurer is Jerry O'Sullivan who retired as a Detective in Cork City and who keeps a tight reign on Regional funds.  Our Vice-Chairman is Kieran Mangan, who is a serving Member of An Garda Siochana in Killarney and who commanded the "Kingdom Calling" Article in The IPA Journal for a number of years.  Pat Nunan, a serving Garda in Cork City, is our Secretary. He has  been elected at National Congress 2006 to National Executive Committee as Supplies Secretary. Pat was manager of the Cork Garda Indoor Soccer Team who are past All-Ireland Champions.  He has travelled to Riccione, Italy with the squad for the world Finals.  Tom Collins, a member of The Traffic Section in Tralee, is our Supplies Secretary. Our Assistant Treasurer, and our only female member and the very popular Ann Liston, who is retired from the Garda Siochana in Mallow, Co. Cork. Ann also is the chairperson of Cork East Branch in the Region. Our PRO is Eamonn McCarthy an IT expert based at the Garda station Midleton. Our Development Secretary is John O Connor based in Togher, Cork City. John took charge of the Cork Soccer team which represented Section Ireland in Riccionne, Italy in May 2007. Our assistant Secretary is Eugene O Connor who was Captain of the 5 a side Indoor Soccer team which won the All Ireland in 2002 and went on to Riccionne Italy to represent his country.  Lastly, but not least we have Paul Mangan, who is a retired Detective Sergeant in Cork. Paul represents us on The National Executive in the unenviable role of National Vice-President.

We are fortunate to have this hardworking committee in the Region who are operating at Branch and Regional level to keep the IPA Flag flying in the South-West.

So now that you know where we are and what we are about, give us a call and Experience-Servo Per Amikeco, at its very best, in the South-West.

IVERNIA REGION -FIVE A SIDE SOCCER COMPETITION PLAYOFF

Ivernia Region (No. 3) Five-a-Side soccer finals took place in the brilliant new GAA pavilion in Mallow recently. The Cork West team "Bandon" won the “Noel Power Perpetual trophy” beating Anglesea Street – Unit A in the final.  Watercourse Road and Mallow were the other teams involved in the competition. The level of play was to a very high standard and all four teams gave of their very best in what proved to be a great competition.
